LYNCHINGS AND LIPS

– I am frankly confused as to why I cannot think of anything without myself.

“Instead of writing a good novel, Cemal, wish you had been a good son. Wish you hadn't sadden your father, hurt your brother, and have called your mother more often. Rather than being right, wish you had chosen to be happy. Selins, Leylas, Receps; gentrifications, and street animals… What do you have to do with them? I wish you hadn't bothered anyone or touched their nerves. If only you had silenced that Cemal in your head and behaved well. And instead of a play to be written about you, if only a barbecue party had been organized. A noisy barbecue party that disturbs the neighbors, where people of your kind are not thought of...As Cemal progresses from the subtlety of a writer to the vulgarity (!) of an internet phenomenon, while ruining himself and those around him with his supposedly unconventional ideas, he waits for the likely Istanbul earthquake in an old house filled with his father's belongings, in a building whose residents he could never convince to undergo urban transformation, as an incompatible person.

‘Lynchings and Lips’ focuses on the waiting process and the possible outcomes of those who design life solely based on reason and expect to be right.”
